A Little Bit of Potipot Island

2:04 PM

Here's the rhythm to days at the island. The getting up early  because the sun streams in from all directions. The morning walks. Toes in. And then there's the sound of the waves hitting the shore. The glint of the sun on the water. The smell of the salt air and the way it forces you to breathe differently. The sleeping under the stars.

Amazing sunrise at six in the morning.

The days and the sunshine go on forever around here.

Getting Around
The easiest way is to ride a bus bound to Sta. Cruz, Zambales via SCTEX. Take note that Victory liner (Pasay) does not have a lot of schedule for this route, better to check beforehand. Or you can do Olongapo, then Sta. Cruz. (6-7hrs travel time) Alight at Brgy. Uacon's (petron to your left) in Candelaria. Take a tricycle from here to the port (10 mins travel time), then a 5 minute boat ride to the island.

Island Guide
As always, the specific don't really matter, but in case the nitty-gritty is what you're after, here's a little rundown of how our camping here went down.

We spent the first half of our trip travelling. It was a long ride and definitely worth it. There are few cottages and tree houses for rent but camping here is a whole lot of fun. If you don't have your own tent you can rent one here or to the boatmen. This place is one of the best camping spot before it gets commercialized. It is near to getting spoiled since there's a lot of construction happening now. But it's still a spare island to go when you want to escape the modern ones. Finding a perfect place to pitch your tent would be a little bit confusing since almost the whole place is a nice setting. So try exploring the island first. In our scenario, we pitched ours near the swimming area but a bit far from the crowd where the sand is superb. (upon going to the island it's towards your right, just choose the one with a fine trees for your shade)

The most picturesque spot of the island is it's sea side especially during sunset and sunrise.
Sunrise is the best time to appreciate it's spectacular view. (Slide to see more.)

Camping food. Buying all your needs before going to the island is highly preferable. Items there are quiet pricey and has a few selection. It is much better if you drop first at the public market and gather all your needs. Bringing your cook set is also a plus but there are some boatman whom you can rent all your necessities. (cook set, griller, ice box, tents) There's a grilling station near the information area. And a lot of tables and chairs where you can set your utensils and take your meals.

Alcohol is prohibited and bonfire is not allowed.

There's a windy part at the island wherein a lot of trees are located. (it's at your left side when facing the island). It is the best spot to hang your hammock. Also, there are some cottages in this part available for rent. (if you're not a fan of camping, cottages here are the nicest but swimming area here is a bit rocky)
As the sun sleeps.
What is truly enchanting is waking up by the sea and hearing the sound of the waves. Also, like owning the entire island, is perhaps the most wonderful aspect of all. Potipot island  is a mystery wrapped in beautiful unexpected things. The rest is for you to see and know!
